How would misspelling a vocabulary word name feminise it? It only makes you look illiterate imo (would you say "Gee, that clae makes really good sculptures!"?).
I don't care for Clay on a girl. It sounds quite masculine to me. But it's better than some other male names for girls.
Clay for a boy... I'm not crazy about it, but it's OK. It does have a strong sound. I like Clayton better though.
