Is it like "tear-nee" or "turn-nee" or am I just completely off?

Closer to Tear-nee, but it comes from the Irish Ó Tiarnaigh, so you might also hear it as something like Cheer-nee.

TEER vs. TAYRE
Tear in your eye is TEER. Rhymes with ear, or beer.
Tear the paper is TAYRE, like, it rhymes with hair, or hare, or fair or mare.
:-D
Edit: I had TAHRE insteaad of TAYRE. TARE would also be right... I dunno! Go by the rhymes I listed!
