[Opinions] Tempest
I've really been loving Tempest lately. Honestly I didn't even know it was a name until recently. Sure, people could think of the temper tantrum thing, being that it means "storm", but hey I love thunderstorms and I think it's such a cool name. Wdyt of it, and do you have any combos? I think Tempest Katherine, Tempest Christine, Tempest Laura, and Tempest Ally are sweet.

The idea of using this word as a name goes all the way back to the mid-19th century, when Mary Jane Holmes published a best-selling novel called Tempest and Sunshine. The book was about two sisters, whose real names were Julia and Fanny, but who were always called Tempest and Sunshine by their father in reference to their contrasting dispositions. A lot of people think of these as "hippy" names, but there are examples of both back in the 19th century because of that book.

No child wants to be named "temper tantrum"
Yes, thunderstorms are wonderful, but that's *not* what most people will think of when they hear the word. It's an emotive word that implies instability, volatility, fierceness, overwroughtness.
It's hard enough being a child or teen in this day and age without having 'label' names. Tempest would be as trying and burdensome a name as Patience or Silence imo.

In the book Freakonomics, there is a case where a girl was brought to court for, among other things, having men into the apartment while her mother was at work. I don't remember how old she was, but I think she was just a teenager, maybe 15 or so. Anyway, her name was Temptress, and someone at the court asked her mother why on earth she had named her daughter that. The woman replied that she'd seen the name of the woman on the Cosby Show (Tempestt Bledsoe, I believe) and liked it. She didn't find out until later that she had misspelled it, and even later than that did she find out what "temptress" means.
Just something I thought I'd point out. I think the name Tempest itself is way too impersonal and wouldn't make me like the person very much.

The "someone" in the book was the judge, and if the story is as was presented there, I really think he overstepped his bounds to grill the mother about her daughter's name. It's no wonder he didn't get much response from her; I wouldn't have answered his questions either at that point.
Stormy's sister
Literally, I know a sibset where one girl is named Stormy MN (don't remember) and the other one is Carly Tempest. I think both are tacky. This may be due to my association with said sibset (the mother is unstable, for lack of a better word).
What are the convulsions of a city in comparison with the insurrections of the soul?
Man is a depth still greater than the people.

Oh, wow. I have CATS that are sisters named Stormy and Sunny. That's bad enough but at least they're not human. :b

I agree that together, Stormy and Tempest can be a little much. I actually heard of twins Heaven and Nevaeh. Who knows, next it'll be Tsepmet and Ymorts!

I like it, but it reminds me too strongly of "temptress." I personally wouldn't use it. Of your combos, I like Tempest Katherine and Tempest Laura.
Suggestions from the top of my head:
Tempest Marina (may be too wordy though)
Tempest Adela
Tempest Suzanne
Tempest Margot
Tempest Aurora
