With all the crazy names used today? Yes, I think it would work just fine. I find it way preferable to Destiny or Madison, as a matter of fact.
Plus, you could always used the nn Annie if you eventually found it was too strange (which I doubt would happen).

I bought a new name book the other day, and was looking through the A names and saw it. I just jumped out at me.
Too bad it's not in Baby Name Wizard, though. I'm loving it enough to find siblings for it.

I don't have Baby Name Wizard, so I don't know what it's range of names is like, but you could look for similar names that might be in there - try Acacia, Althea, Anthea and Alethea, for example.
I don't mind Acantha but it sounds a little thorny to me.
