Tell me if you like or dislike the names below, then say why.Astrid nn Austi
like/dislike: I hate Austi. I love Astrid, why ruin it with this horrible, horrible nick name?
why: See above. Also, if you want a nn for Astrid, why don't you use Asta? Gwendolyn nn Gwen
like/dislike: It's okay.
why: I can't decide wether I like it or not.Elizabeth nn Betty
like/dislike: Love Elizabeth, Betty is okay, I prefer Lisa or Eliza for a nn.

Astrid nn Austi
like/dislike: dislike
why: I really like different names, but this one just seems a little too out there - and I really don't like the nickname! SOunds like a wine!Gwendolyn nn Gwen
like/dislike: Gwen I like, Gwendolyn I don't
why: its the whole "Gwendo" thing...it just doesn't sound very pretty to me.Elizabeth nn Betty
like/dislike: love Elizabeth, hate Betty
why: Elizabeth is old fashioned but seems like one of those names that will never die, but Betty just sounds horrible - and there are so many other, prettier nicknames for Elizabeth.Abigail nn Abby
like/dislike: like
why: its cuteKate
like/dislike: its okay...
why: I would prefer it as a nickname to something like Katherine (it seems kind of short on its own) but its certainly not the worst name!Felicity
like/dislike: HATE
why: I don't even know why, have just always hated this nameSophie
like/dislike: like
why: cute, prefer SophiaGillian nn Gilly
like/dislike: LOVE
why: SOOO cute, love both namesGemma
like/dislike: like
why: probably because I have known so many Gemma's that I really like...I prefer it spelt Jemma though.Sarah
like/dislike: indifferent
why: I think its too plain. Its something that I would never use myself. I would steer clear of simple, plain names (at least for first names) like Sarah, Jane, Mary and yes, Kate. The only reason I would use Anne is for family reasons :)

Astrid nn Austi
dislike:
why: sounds unattractive to me, and the nn doesn't match the name at all/isn't attractive either; I had a professor that named her baby Astrid and everyone in our class (not TO her, of course) commented on how ugly that name wasGwendolyn nn Gwen
like
why: Pretty, feminine, not overly common but still recognizableElizabeth nn Betty
dislike
why: Ok, I love the name Elizabeth but it's just too common imo. But Betty is an awful nn, I think. Abigail nn Abby
like
why: It's a cute nn with a pretty name to fall back on. I don't love how popular it is though. I know a lot of Abby/Abbies. Kate

This could have gone on the Opinion Board.
Anyway -
Astrid nn Austi
like/dislike: like
why: unusual, distinctive sound, with cute nick. I knew one Astrid once, but the nick wouldn't have suited her - it'd depend on the person.Gwendolyn nn Gwen
like/dislike: sort of dislike
why: tired of hearing it, although I think it's a nice nameElizabeth nn Betty
like/dislike: sort of dislike
why: It's fine, but Elizabeth is generic to me. Betty is refreshingly out of style though.Abigail nn Abby
like/dislike: dislike
why: homely with the two consonant sounds B and G together like that. Looks like "a big ail." Abby is plain to me.Kate
like/dislike: meh. okay
why: Kate is a cute name but commonFelicity
like/dislike: dislike
why: cheesy, the kind of name a little girl gives her cat. Doesn't pass the Doctor Test.Sophie
like/dislike: like
why: serene, strong So- syllable. One of the few names with no voiced consonants that appeals to me. Femme but not girly, and modest compared to aloof, glam Sophia.Gillian nn Gilly
like/dislike: like
why: somewhat rare these days; happy sounding but not fluffy. prefer spelling Jilly or Jillie (doesn't look like gill (of a fish) -y)Gemma
like/dislike: like
why: warm and simple. I think of the botanical meaning, not the Italian meaning.Sarah
like/dislike: like okay.
why: pretty, simple, timeless, modest, femme. Overused though, nearly to genericness. - chazda [edited to add more stuff about Astrid]

like/dislike: Like
why: The name Gwen is really growing on me but I prefer Gwenyth. Gwendolyn is very pretty also.Elizabeth nn Betty
like/dislike: Extremely Dislike
why: I've always hated the name Elizabeth especially with the nickname Betty / Bessie / Bess / Liz. I could tolorate the Elizabeth with the nn Libby but that's as far as I would go with that name. Abigail nn Abby
like/dislike: It's OK.
why: I like it as a middle name.Kate
like/dislike: Dislike
why: Way too popular and dated. Felicity
like/dislike: Dislike
why: It's too much associated with the T.V. show.Sophie
like/dislike: Like
why: Really popular but it's so pretty so it makes up for the popularity. Gillian nn Gilly
like/dislike: OK
why: I like Gillian and you never really hear the name anymore but I dislike the nickname.Gemma
like/dislike: Dislike
why: Reminds me of Emma. Sarah
