[Opinions] Mona (and more; edited)
I love Mona, but don't really like Monique. Do you think Mona could stand alone or does it look too nicknamey? Any other suggestions for a full name that could use the nn Mona?Edit: I just came across the name Clovis for a boy. I think I kinda like it. I don't like Mona at all - in an Australian accent it's homophonic with "moaner", which is awful.Clovis is very cute, and I've been trying to find a story to use it in for years. I've always thought that Clovis & Quentin would make a cute sibset if set in the right era.

Clovis is kind of cute to me, but I doubt I'd use it ever. Certainly has character appeal though. Hmm..Mona.
Love it. We use it as a nickname for Harmony, but we pronounce it like "Monna" instead of how the Mona Lisa is pronounced. You could use it as a nickname for...
Harmonia
Diamond
Monday
Anemone
Monet
Monika / Monica
Simone / Simona /etc
Ramona-Seda*

I don't like Monique much (or Clovis, sorry) but I like Mona, esp. as a nn for Ramona. I had a friend named Ramona Camille who went by Mona. :)

I think Mona is strong enough to stand on its own. It doesn't have that cutesy factor "too nickname-y" names have. But, if you prefer it as a NN, here are some names it could be a nn for:Desdemona
Simona
Ramona
Anemone
Harmony
Pomona
Montserrat
Raimonda

I like Clovis, although I prefer it on a girl, rhyming with Lovis. And Hovis, come to think of it. I would like that on a boy, if it weren't for the bread!I like Mona, I know a ten year old named this as her full fn and an 18 year old called Ramona nn "Mona". WDYT to Ramona?

I'm really not liking Ramona, Monica, Simone, or any of the other names suggested. I really just like Mona, I'm just afraid it won't stand on its own well. But several people seem to think it will... thanks for the input!

I think Clovis is horrible...For a boy or a girl. It sounds like something that grows under your fingernail and turns it green.

There's always Monica or Monika, and like Starla Roxanne said it's feasible that it be a nn for Ramona. There are also Desdemona, Simona, and Pomona that end in -mona. I could also see Marijona, Matrona, Meiriona, or maybe Monserrat (the way I'm saying it, it's a Mahn rather than Mohn sound, but Monica is the same way) working as full names for Mona.**Edited to add Anemone, Harmony, Morana, Morgana, and Harmonia as other possibilities. Some are a stretch but Mona is made up of some pretty basic sounds, so I could maybe see it. **Edited again to say that I don't care for Clovis, but I think Clovia is an adorable name for a girl and that Clove might make an interesting, if perhaps a bit spicy, female name as well.

I don't care for Mona, it sounds exactly like somebody who moans a lot. But I think it stands well enough on its own, you don't see it used much, but when you do it's usually the ful name.
Could be a nn for Ramona.
