Help[Opinions] WDYTO Malcolm?
Any opinions? I know most of the users of this site would have a less-than-conventional opinion of it. Does it have too many negative culture connotations? Or do you just take it as it is, a Scotch-Irish name? I have always been a fan of the name, but hesitant to use because of its connotations it tends to have with the public.

I personally like the name.
As for connotations, it makes me think of Malcolm Meriwether from a couple Andy Griffith eppisodes.

I love it, always have. To me it is a very handsome, strong name. any little boy would be lucky to have it.
It doesn't do well on polls here, but I wouldn't say that it has a really bad reputation with the general public, at least here in the U.S. Television is notorious for using up and coming names. I was pleased when I heard the title "Malcolm in the Middle" for the first time.
I know a woman who was expecting in the 90's. I can still remember: if it was a girl, Olivia; a boy, Malcolm. (It was a girl.)
If the name Damian / Damien can overcome the Omen thing, then any name can bounce back. ;-)

What connotation does it have that would make you hesitate to use it?
In the US, it does sometimes tend to be seen as a "black" name, but not as strongly as some of hte names on Rachel's list below.
I don't mind the name myself, I don't have any particular associations, negative or positive, with it. I do think it sounds a bit too similar to malcontent, but that's as far as it goes.

I think of Malcolm-Jamal Warner from the Cosby Show and then of MacBeth... I like it.
