ClareWithout looking into it deeply, I just cant stand the i. It looks like it was just thrown in there when it doesnt have to be. Clare is more appealing and nice to look at. If you are trying a fn though, most will probably add the "i". However, I have been correcting people all my life with my name, and frankly, I am happy with my spelling because it is different. I would love to see Clare more widely used. Also, where my bias comes in - my grandfather's mn is Clarence, and I have always thought it would be cute to use Clarence as a fn on a son because I do love it. Clare would be a nice nn. When I started liking it as a mn option for a daughter (to honor my grandfather), I would use Clare (not Claire) to honor him. ~~Kris~~

Clare! mI love it! When I was younger, my friend's mother Clare was like a second mother to me. I loved her and hence the name has great associations for me. And I like that the name looks nice and compact spelled without the I.

ClaireBecause I want to pronounce Clare "Klar" not "Kler". And in my region "Klar" is a nn for Clarence. It just sounds ugly.

ClareClare seems like the "real" one to me, and I'm pretty tired of seeing Claire. It's being done to death and I'd rather see it be varied a bit.

I like both. For me, it all depends upon the middle name and surname.Lissa

Claire is just more visually appealing to me. It's more interesting. It seems lighter and more delicate (if that makes sense). Also, Clare is so similar to the male name, Clarence.

Clare.I can't stand Claire--it comes off as very 80s, very yuppie, very pretty-pretty-princess, very snobby. Which is weird, because I love both Clare and Clair, which sound exactly the same. But the spelling difference means a great deal to me--it's a make-it-or-break-it issue with this name.Array

Claire!I've never liked Clare - it's so bland and plain. Claire has a lightness and brightness to it that Clare doesn't.Hope that helps :-)

ClaireI just think it looks more complete and I always think of Clare as in County Clare in Ireland (which wouldn't be most people's first reaction, but it is mine) and I don't like place names all that much. For me there is also the familiarity of Claire as it is my cousin's name so I am biased :pI do like Claire spelt either way though...it is a very nice name :)

Clare!I adore Clare, and cannot stand Claire. I have no idea why.. I suppose Claire looks a bit yuppie? I think so. Either way, it's a lovely sound! I just don't like the i in there :)
