Grandmother's name is Augusta. I'm not loving the a on the end.

Personally, I hate it. Its a month and I really loathe names such as that. Also, August (the month) just has too much meaning already (as in way too many family birthdays and ann's. But I hate any other month names, as well as seasons or most word names.

I never thought I'd consider naming my son August but I'm really warming to this name and think it sounds very handsome too. I think there will be some people you'd get negative reactions from but I wouldn't worry about what they say or think about it. What's most important is if you like the name.

I would have no problem naming a son August although I would not pronounce it the way the month is said. Rather I would pronounce it: OW-guwst. Much like the way it is pronounced in the name of the French Impressionist Pierre August Renoir.

Yes, I definitely would name my son August. It's one of my favorite boys' names at the moment. I like it as a fn, esp. with the nn Gus, and also as a mn (and I also love Augusta for a girl). I don't think it would necessarily get negative reactions. It's different, but it's a well-known word, at least, and not a terribly odd one. :b If I do ever use it, it would be a nice way to honor my parents, whose birthdays are both in the month of August. :)

Yes I would. It's a family name. August is an awesome name. I also like it for a girl (more like a GP name for a girl), but would use it on a boy.
