Newsreader on national news. Aela (said the same as Ella)
i thought (before hearing it) that it was said Ay-ella

I would have though "i ella", "a ella", or like the name Ayla.It's not a horrible name (when pronounced like the above), but it doesn't all look like Ella to me. I love Ella, either on its own or as a NN, when it's spelled Ella. Other than that, it's too confusing.As for Aela, I'd spell it Aella, and I much prefer Ariella.

Aela does nothing for me. But I've always loved Aelia, an ancient Roman girl's name pronounced, "AY-lia."

Uh-uh, not as "Ella." Aela looks like AY-la to me (I kinda like it instead of Ayla), or maybe an extremely peculiar respelling of Isla (EYE-la). But NOT Ella.- mirfak
