I am quite fond of Ursula, but I am WAY too old to have been influenced by The Little Mermaid in my evaluation of the name. :)

I quite like it. The only Ursula I ever knew was my dad's pet tarantula. I somehow still like the name, lol. ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!

I quite like Ursula. There was an Ursula in my grade at school and she was a lovely girl who was always smiling so that is my association. My next association is the Bond girl as my Dad is a James Bond die hard. Apparently he mentioned once wanting to name my older half-sister Ursula and his girlfriend of the time refused to listen to any other name suggestions he had the whole pregnancy! It sounds great with your ln as well so go for it!

My sister always points out that, if you play about with Ursula Andress's name, you get Arsula Undress. So now it reminds me of "arse" :-/I wasn't a fan before that, either. It does remind me of the baddie in The Little Mermaid._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I've never cared for it.The sound is just... not pleasent to my ears. I think that would change quickly if I knew one, though. I'd go ahead and use it, as I'm seeing it more and more often.

Ursula is a beautiful name with some great namesakes, its elegant and feminine without being too common or cutsey.

Warning: irrational rantI'm an Ursula lover and I'm going to pick on you because you're the most recent person to express this "Little Mermaid" prejudice. I. mean. really. Have you people never heard of Ursula K LeGuin, author of the Earthsea books? Ursula Andress, the Swedish actress and original James Bond Girl? Saint Ursula, founder of the Ursuline order of nuns? Am I crazy (don't answer that!) or is there no other collective understanding of the name Ursula? OK, thanks. Got that off my chest.

I've heard of all of those. Unfortunately, I saw The Little Mermaid long before I knew who any of those people were, so it's still my first and strongest association with this name.Sorry that offends you, but really... I don't do it on purpose. I can't control what images come to mind when I hear a name. I like Ursula and I don't think it's unusable, but you have to accept that a lot of people do think of the Disney character when they hear it.

I'm not offended in the least. It was all tongue in cheek. :-) I'm just trying to see if I can open people's eyes to other possibilities and sometimes (feined) shock works as well as anything else. :-D

I really dislike the name Ursula to be honest. It has always sounded really harsh to my ears.

Yes! Ursula is a top ten name for me. I absolutely adore it. It's so elegant and intelligent sounding. It works perfectly with your surname. Go for it!

Ursula is not a favorite of mine but I'd be happy to meet a little girl with that name. :)But I'm still trying to figure out the pronunciation of your last name--how is there an "S" sound in there? :-/

Personally I love it! As I know a seven year old called Ursula who is lovely. I can understand the whole sea witch from the Little Mermaid problem but personally I wouldn't worry about it all.Good LuckEleanor x

I think it's great! Like others said, The Little Mermaid put a bit of a stigma on it, but that's easy to get over, especially when it sounds so good with your ln.

I do quite like it but I personally will always associate the name with Ursula from the Disney Cartoon so that kinda prevents it from becoming a major favourite. Ursula Sontheil sounds great though.

I have a *cure* for youRent "Dr. No." The first Bond girl was Ursula Andress. Growing up in the 70's Ursula was synonymous with sexy Swedish model / acress. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=images&va=Ursula+Andress&ei=UTF-8&fr=slv8-adbe&b=21

You mean the little mermaid i know one of my sisters said that to me when i suggested Ursula but appart from that they thought it was lovely

Yeah it is lovely but that association would prevent me from using it myself. Congrats on your baby girl by the way. =)

I love it! mUrsula is on my favorites list. I think it's lovely and feminine and completely underappreciated. One cartoon has ruined it for so many people, but I think it's much to pretty to let that get in its way. Congrats, and good luck. :)Magnanimous Despair alone could show me so divine a thing, where feeble hope could ne'er have flown, but vainly flapped its tinsel wing.
