This is perfectly understandable as a Southern "surname turned female given name". However, I'm afraid that it doesn't sound quite as "preppy" as most such names. Fontaine unfortunately, because of its close relationship by sound to "fountain", its accent on the second syllable, and its strong association as the surname of the actress
Joan Fontaine, probably sounds much more "blue collar" than the average such name does.
