[Opinions] Ishtar
Hey:I've been a fan of this name for a long time. I use a variant, Ishtara (no, its probably not an actual variant) on a game site. I'm asked on a consistant basis if from Iraq or the surronding area. Could this name work? Or should I save it for a cat?Siri

I prefer Astarte or Inanna, myself. Ishtar sounds too abrupt, like the variant Esther, to me.

Ishtar is the Babylonian / Persian form of Esther (the Hebrew name of Queen Esther was Hadassah). I rather like it. Ishtara is nice and feminine too. :)

I think Ishtara would work better with the 'a' on the end if used in real life, but I must admit I like it better without. In fact, this name is so uncommon, why not just go with Ishtar? It's not like adding an 'a' at the end will cause any less confusion from those around you, eh?

Ishtar was the name of a not-so-memorable movie starring Warren Beatty. Yet I remember it anway and it's all I can think of when I hear the name. Like Nell. I can picture Ishtar the Cat though.
