[Opinions] WDYT of Kashmir?
Is Kashmir too odd to use for a male name? I generally don't like place naming all that much, and Kashmir has so much baggage along with it. (From all of the political dispute over the region)
I know that there are similarly spelt - a quick search on BtN shows this list.
CASIMIR m English
CASIMIRO m Spanish, Portuguese, Italian
KASIMIR m
KASIMIRA f
KAZIMERAS m Lithuanian
KAZIMIERA f Polish
KAZIMIERZ m Polish
KAZIMIR m Russian
KÁZMÉR m Hungarian
None of them are from the same word for the region, that I can tell.
So, I would like to know if it is too trendy or weird. It's not really something that I would normally go for, but I like it. Just deciding to use a place name as a human name, but I can't help it in this case. : -/
Edited to add - Would people associate it with the goat hair from Kashmir? That's usually spelt Cashmere though.

Mmmmm...soft sweaters.
Is there a reason you would want to name after the region? (Family ties, political statements, etc?) Otherwise, I really can't see it...and particularly not on a boy.

My first thought was Cashmere. You could have worse associations, but it isn't something I'd use (I agree that aside from that, it looks like a nice name!). I'm not familiar with the place itself, so I don't have any objections because of that.
What made you interested in it as a name? Was it the place itself, or the sound/look of the name?

Partly the region, which a very beautiful but war-torn place. Also a song called Kashmir. I agree that it looks very nice. I also like the way that related names (such as Kasimir) look.
I think if most people heard Kashmir they'd ask, "Like a sweater?"
As soon as I saw the title, cashmere, like the sweater, came to mind. It's different, but not so out there that it's unheard of.
I would find it a bit too political--like naming a child Ireland or Zion. As good (or blind) as the intentions might be, it just sounds like you're using the baby as a soapbox.
If you really like it (and since you like to get the Led out, I don't doubt you do ;), then I think it would be best relegated to a middle name spot.

Lol, with my sig and profile, I probably give away my obsession. I got 3 Led Zeppelin cds on Christmas, and I think that I already know the words to every song! Lol, I am obsessed....
