[Opinions] Re: Vera (updated)
in reply to a message by Emily
Love, love, love Vera. It was my (step-)grandmother's name, so I'm biased. But I really do love it and would be tickled pink to meet a little Vera one day. By the way, my grandmother's real name was Veronica. Vera was her nn. Just an option I thought you might like too.P.S. I thought of another name that Vera could be a nn for: Elvira ("el-VEER-a"). Vera doesn't need a more formal name; it is its own name and can stand alone perfectly well. It just seemed you were hesitant and sometimes people feel better if they think there is a more formal name to fall back on.

Vera as nn for Elvira...My grandmother's name was Elvira (el-VEE-ra) and she went by Vera for short. Most people didn't even know that her full name was Elvira. I think it's cute and will be ripe for a comeback, especially with the popularity of designer Vera Wang.
