[Opinions] Maile
I got this name for a previous post today (sorry, I can remember who, but it was the subject about Mylee and 3 other names).
However, I have really been liking the sound of MY-lee for a girl. I really dislike creative names, so when I couldnt find a Mylee or Miley or other alternative spelling in any database, I was losing hope. Someone (again, I am horrible at names) mentioned Maile and a lady they know who pn it as I was looking for (despite a refrence saying it was MY-lay.)
Anyway, I really like the sound, and I like that it is an actual name, but I am not sure about the MY-lay pn. Someone mentioned it looked more like MY-lay than MY-lee. I am not one to worry too much about pn or spelling problems - I've grown up with them for my own name as well as family names.
Overall - WDYT of Maile pn MY-lee? Do you think people in America will have a hard time picking it up? Any nice combos come to mind?

The only Maile I "know" of with this spelling is Wayne Brady's (actor) daughter. His wife is Mandie Takeda and their daughter is Maile Masako Brady. Not sure if she is Hawaiian (I thought she was Japanese). I'm almost positive they pronounce it like MY-lee.
I know an adult Miley, this spelling (I believe), in her 40s. Not sure where her parents got the name from, though.

I love the name MY-lee, no matter how it's spelled. It's my favorite name at the moment, though I prefer the spelling Miley. (I posted about 'Miley' a few weeks ago and got mixed comments about it.) Anyway, my favorite combos are:
Miley/ Maile Sofia
Miley/ Maile Christine
Hope I helped!

I went to grade school with a girl named Maile who pronounced it my-lee. Her family was from Hawaii.
I really like it
Right being My-lee?
I saw that it was pn MY-lay, so I am wondering, but you will be the third to say they know someone pn it My-lee, so maybe the source is wrong, or most people just say it MY-lee because its more natural for the English speaking.

my friend says it my-lee
There was a child of this name on the Supernanny TV show. There were twin girls, about 4 years old, white family, perfectionist mom, etc. One was Maile and the other was Malia. Their 6 year old sister was Haeley and a baby brother Leighton.
I like the name Maile. I would anticipate pronunciation issues as some of the people before me have mentioned, but I don't think it will be too much of a problematic name otherwise.
BTW, this name is Hawaiian, which is part of America.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist! :-p (joke))

It was a joke. I was just being pain-in-the-neck technical about the America thing. I had a Spanish teacher in high school who talked about visiting somewhere in Mexico or South America when she was younger & not as fluent in the Spanish language, though what I'm getting at has nothing to do with fluency of language. And she made the mistake of saying something about "In America...." And the people she was with pointed out that their country was a part of (the) America(s).
On the show, it was pronounced the way you mentioned, MY-lee.

Kind of figured it was a joke with the :P face.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It looked to me more like "MAY-lee".
But maybe that's because I know someone who's name is that.
Except I think that she spells it "Meili" or something like that since she's half-Chinese.
It really doesn't look like "MY-lee", judging on the spelling.
