I once had a co-worker whose sister or cousin or someone had a daughter they named Tierney. My co-worker said the baby was named Tierney for two reasons. First, because it was a grandmother's maiden name. Second, to honor their Irish heritage.
I've always remembered this baby's name because it was the only time I've known of a person with the fn Tierney.
This was in about 1989.
