I don't know if any of you are tennis fans, but awhile back my husband and I were watching Marat Safin play a match and the camera crews kept cutting back to his gorgeous girlfriend sitting in the stands. Her name was Dascha (pr. Dah-shah). Ever since then, my husband keeps saying that he wants to name our daughter Dascha, and I have to admit that it's really starting to grow on me!
So...I have a few questions.
1. Do you like this name, and what type of woman does it remind you of?
2. We have a long, Polish last name. Is an obscure eastern European first name such as Dascha too much in combination with a difficult last name?
3. Can you think of any combos that sound good?

FYI, I think the Dasha/Dascha you saw is Daria Zhukova, a model. The porn star's real name is Dagmar. So Dasha/Dascha is kind of a pet form, maybe. Interesting.
On an American & English speaking woman or girl (I'm in the US so that's about all my opinion applies to), I'd like it okay. I like the sound of it. I have about the same impression as I have of a girl named Sasha, or Nikita, or even something like Saskia or Fleur -- it'd seem sort of self-consciously exotic, but in a 21st-century mainstream sort of way; not distractingly attention-grabbing, just pleasant.
I don't see a problem with the long Polish last name, unless it has a "sh" sound at the beginning. I suggest you try to find out in exactly what part of the world are women called Dascha/Dasha, though, just in case you or she should run into someone from there who is curious how a woman with that last name came to be called Dascha.
Combos ... well, barring odd initials, excessive length, rhyminess, and puns, I'm not really critical of combinations anymore. Try out the names of some other women you admire, or women in your family, with it. Some off the top of my head:
Dascha Gloria
Dascha Carolee
Dascha Miranda
Dascha Quinn
Dascha Mia
Dascha Darcy

But porn stars aren't forever!
The name also reminds me of dachas, which are Russian country cottages.

Ugh. No, I hadn't noticed the porn connection.
Well, I still don't think that would stop me from using the name, although it's certainly not good.
And like you said, porn stars don't last forever. Maybe by the time my daughter and her peers are old enough to surf the web, this porn star Dascha will have moved onto a different career... ;0)

Yeah, it wouldn't stop me either. Googling my (very soon to be) mother-in-law's name brings up the same sort of stuff. Some porn stars just have nice names!

I love the name Dascha! I think it is cute, classy, pronouncable, and can age well. I actually added this name to my list. It is exotic but not so exotic that people will look at her funny. I think that mixing it with a Polish last name shouldn't be a problem, but will just give it more appeal. She may have more people ask her "Where are you from?" though.

I like the name Dascha :) It reminds me of a very stylish and classy women. I don't think it would be bad with a difficult last name but I don't know your last name. So your best bet is to say it out loud a few times and see if it sounds good together in your opinion.
I know alot of people feel Rose is a filler mn. But I just love it as a mn IMO ofcourse :) I think Dascha Rose sounds really pretty together.
