Help[Opinions] Ptolemy
WDYTO Ptolemy (pronounced TOL-uh-mee)? I'm really liking its sound and rhythm--it's reminiscent of Jeremy to me, except with a more learned, less bug-eating aura to it. (Bad experience with a Jeremy. Don't ask. ;)
And if I decided to hold on to it, that would bring the number of names I really love for boys right now up to four: Morpheus, Edmond, Nathaniel, and Ptolemy.
So, WDYT? And combo ideas, if you feel like it. :) Thanks!

Not such a fan of this one. It's one you occasionally see in a Times birth announcement, part of a string of names given to the newest scion of that segement of English society that still refers to the British Empire in the present tense. Wilfred Henry Ptolemy Marcus Evers-Jones or what have you.
Tolly's a fun nn, but I think Oliver or Bartholomew are less fussy sources.

The Pt- makes me think of a pterodactyl or "Patooey" (however one might spell that :-/), but if I just say it over and over again, I do like the sound. I just happen to be a rather "visual" person, lol. Either way, it's much better than Jeremy, imo, esp. if there's bug eating involved. :b

I like it for you. It's always a name I thought would be cool in theory, and the namesake is really, really cool. Plus, it sounds great with the other names. :-)
Ptolly is cute, but I think I prefer Lem. Not Lemmy though.
Combos? Hmm. Besides Ptolomy Ray, of course... hmm... Ptolomy Christian, Ptolomy Bendict (that was the varient of Benedict you use, right?, maybe Ptolomy Kolbe.

It's a name that I typically would like but the first thing I thought of when I saw the name was Phlebotomy{The collection of blood}and I can't shake that from my mind. Yes, I'm a dork... I doubt anyone else will have that image when they see the name.

Its one of the names that I really like the sound of but which I wouldnt use in real life.
That said I think it would fit in with your other names
Ptolemy Augustus a bit much prehapes but I rather like the sound of these two names together

Ptolemy's very nice. It has a strong background as well, which makes it all the more appealing. My first reaction is the astronomer, and that's totally a good thing.

it's not my style, but it's unique and I like that. I do like the sound of it.
my urge is to pair it with Bartholomew for some reason, either as a sibset or a combo.
Ptolemy & Bartholomew: very scholarly-sounding brothers.
Bartholomew Ptolemy works better for than Ptolemy Bartholomew as I trip over the latter combo's L's.

I really fell in love with Ptolemy after the character in Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy--so Ptolemy and Bartholomew definitely sounds reminiscent of Ptolemy and Bartimaeus to me. In a very good way--they had an amazing relationship--but definitely reminds me of them. :)
