Help[Opinions] Iphigeneia.....
I was watching Grey’s Anatomy and a girl said her middle name was Iphigeneia (if-uh-juh-ny-uh) what do you think of it?

I love it - but the name is attached to a very sad myth, so I wouldn't use it.

I like the sound of it but the character (in Greek mythology, not on Grey's Anatomy!) was such a wimp, I couldn't bring myself to use it on a child.

I actually love Greek Mythological type names. But this one in particular I don't care to much for.

As a Greek mythology geek, I quite like it :-) Though I do prefer Iphigenia.

I saw that episode, too (and I don't usually watch that show) but that name caught my eye. The only reason I recognized it is because I had on the closed captioning. I always thought Iphigenia--which I've seen here at this site--was if-fih-JEEN-yah. LOL! The real prn. is much more interesting, but not nec. something I'd use. BTW, the bearer of this mn didn't seem too pleased with that fact. :b
Edited: Just looked at the comments for this name, and I'd totally forgotten about "Mrs. Doubtfire". But I don't think I ever knew how "she" spelled it, though. LOL. And the character on "Grey's Anatomy" with the mn was Callie. Not sure if that's a nn or not.

It's a guilty pleasure for me. It delights both my eyes and ears, but I wouldn't dream of saddling my daughter with it.

The character was mortified by her name... I feel for her. Please don't do that to a real person.

It's spelt Iphigenia, and I prefer it's pronounced Iffa-jee-nee-ah

I love Iphigenia, but I much prefer the Greek pronunciation.

Anyway, I dont tend to like mythology names because they are too "out-there" for me (or just too popular as mythology names that everyone has heard of).

I think this name is really sweet, and NN Iphie / Iphy would be adorable, but most people I talk to think it's too cumbersome. I like pretty much any name related to mythology, though.
