It seems very Irish to me, and probably a bit lower-class. Malachi would either get to be the dashing Irish chap who sweeps the pretty girl off her feet...or the pretty Irish girl's overprotective uncle. Or something like that, heh.
I think that it's a nice name, though I wouldn't use it. Mal would be a very cool nickname, as well. Very, very nice, Siri!
