I like Gail too
Normally I'd say "screw them all -- use if anyway." But... I also think that the name Gay is hunting for trouble. Not only does it now have a very strong meaning, but it is so hackle-raising with so many people. In addition, kids and teenagers still josh and joke about it incessantly. I'd beware.
For alternatives, Gail immediately lept to my mind as well, for a name with a similar sound and feel and no uncomfortable baggage.
There's always your mother's maiden last name or middle name(s) too. :)
