Well, nivedinI is the closest Sanskrit word that comes to mind: the root there is vid meaning to know, with obvious cognates in many Indoeuropean languages. The prefix ni (cognate to the ne in words like nether) is a particle indicating down, back, within and similar meanings. Together, nivid has the sense of communicating, especially introducing, or offering, especially offering oneself; though the original meaning of instruction is still present in the oldest language.
