[Opinions] Sorry Seda*, but ...
in reply to a message by Seda*
This is a naming opinion board. We can't round up all the names of people's children, and say "we don't comment on these". With all the semi-regulars and occasional posters, that'd probably make for 100+ names we couldn't criticise. How ridiculous would that be.Every time you give bad feedback on a name yourself, there could be someone reading it who gave the name to their child. You wouldn't necessarily know - they might not be a regular, or they might never have mentioned their children. Every name you've complained about since joining the board, has belonged to someone, somewhere. And that someone is going to a daughter/son to somebody. That's hardly a reason not to comment on the name!_____________________________________________________________________"There are few more distressing sights than that

No, I never said she couldn't comment or even say that she didn't like it, but she didn't have to slam that exact one nor did she have to say more than it wasn't her style. It wasn't in the database until a few days ago and no one other than myself had ever mentioned it before(okay, maybe Diana did once, but still). I only ask that someone isn't so harsh. Granted, I have said that people's children's names are nms or that I'd never use them, but I've never said "Oh that's the worst, most trashiest name I've ever heard! How could you name your kid that? That's horrendous!" Reguardless of my opinion, I do tend to try to have a little decency about it.
Also, keep in mind this is my daughter and it is my place to feel a little defensive about it. I'd rather her attack my name anyday.-Seda*

I'm sure she could've used many examples of vocab names she dislikes, other than Treasure. But those names could've had bearers with mothers, too. I don't think Cait was that harsh. She used one harsh word about Treasure -- "atrocious". That is an extreme word but perhaps she has extreme feelings about the name? We all have a few names we really, really dislike. Every day I see examples of people being ruder than Cait was just there. Many regulars tap into the class and education stereotypes, speaking very snobbishly to whoever likes a "bad" name, and no one bats an eyelid. If we all got "defensive" every time we saw the name of someone we knew, we'd all be arguing constantly. You'd be as well just separating the name from the person a bit, as long as the comments aren't very rude or personal (which Cait's wasn't imo, just blunt)._____________________________________________________________________"There are few more distressing sights than that

Sure, but not on this board. If we all got "defensive" every time we saw the name of someone we knew, we'd all be arguing constantly.
Explain to me then why everyone got so upset when Mo5's children's names were posted on another board by Kelly R. Was that not because Kelly was being harsh about Mo5's children's names? Sure we all have different taste, but there is no need to be rude about it.-Seda*Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com
