Oh, I'm sorry! I just thought it was a cool name sighting and was including his age. No special association as my poor punctuation would have you believe. :-)
Personally, I greatly dislike Gregory. It always came off prissy and weak. When I saw Vangregory I thought "Now that's the strength that Gregory was missing!" So that's the appeal for me.

Really? I find it very interesting that you feel that way about Gregory because I feel the complete opposite about it. I think it's a very strong, masculine name.
I think Van makes it seem weaker, or at least silly. It sounds like a surname... van Gregory. So hopefully that's actually what it is because otherwise adding Van in front of it for no apparent reason is quite odd.

I think it may stem from personal associations because I really can't put my finge on why it seems that way to me.
