Low German

Low German (also called Low Saxon) is a language spoken in a number of dialects in the north of Germany and northeast of the Netherlands. It is descended from the Germanic languages spoken in the region, notably Old Saxon. In contrast, the standard German language (High German) descends from Germanic languages of the south.
