America

The name 'America' was adopted by most Europeans to the continent(s) (initially just South America) by way of atlases produced by and in tandem with Waltzemuller (Hylacomlys) in the 1500s that claimed that it should be named after Albericus (Amerigo) Vespucci, who Waltzemuller mistakenly credited for its discovery (None of Vespucci's own writing on his 2-4 voyages survives). Waltzemuller himself seems to have actually preferred the rendering of the name as 'Amerige'.

Vespucci was certainly uninvolved with any such decisions and died before he could have ever found about the naming of America.
