from Glevo, a Celtic name meaning "bright place" (could be related to Old English gleaw "wise, prudent") and Old English ceaster "Roman town" - see Chester.
It is a city in the county of Gloucestershire, in South West England. It was founded in AD 97 by the Romans under Emperor Nerva as Colonia Glevum Nervensis.
