The name of a Greek city, which was named after the princess Thessalonike of Macedon. Her name means "Thessalian victory, victory in Thessaly" from Greek Θεσσαλός (Thessalos) "Thessalian" and νίκη (nike) "victory". The First Epistle to the Thessalonians in the New Testament is addressed to the church in Thessalonica.
