Meaning & History

This is the name of a town in Japan's Tokushima Prefecture.

The town's kanji are 海陽 with 海 (kai, umi) meaning "ocean, sea" and 陽 (you, hi) meaning "daytime, heaven, male, positive, sunshine, yang principle."

Kaiyō is also used as a rare, modern masculine given name (see KAIYŌ on the given name site) and a very rare surname (see KAIYŌ on the surname site).
