[Opinions] Caryn for a boy
Just heard of a young man named Caryn. I really like it! I don't know if I would name my child Caryn because of the much more popular female version (Karen), but I actually like it better for a boy.

I wouldn't, the name looks and sounds like a girl's. He will most likely be made fun of, and lastly, he will hate the name. Take it from a 13 year old, dont name a boy Caryn

I love it!I know a guy named Karen and he is very masculine and it fits him well. I prefer the name Kieran for a boy, but I love Karen for a girl too!

Not too much different from my Keren (pro. like Kiran). I like it or I wouldn't use it!I know a male Caren too which I love, but so called "girl" names on boys are my weakness.-Seda*

Me tooI don't know if you'll read this thread because its gotten pushed down, but I love "girl's" names on boys too...I won't use them probably because of the general population's idea that since they are used on girls they are girls names. Some of my favorites are:
Cary (this spelling only)
Ashley
Shannon
Kelly
Karen or KieranDo you have a child named Keren? I love this name for a girl- its the name of one of Job's daughters.

You said that you wouldn't use those names because they're often seen as girl's names. Don't think that way; use them on a boy if you have one in the future if you like them! It's that thinking that causes names like those you mentioned to go feminine.

I too have a weakness for gentle-sounding names on boys. Ashley, Esme, Brook and Skye are among my favourites.

It's terrible to me.

I don't care for it. It's just a form of the female name Karen, and usually, people try to feminize male names by adding a Y to a name, so that doesn't help its masculinity.

I know 2 girls called Karin and this reminds me too much of that name and sounds feminine to me. But I do like the way it looks...

Eek! This, imo, is a strange reversal of the usual "let's misspell a male name to make it 'feminine'!" philosophy. Caryn's just a misspelled name kre8ivlee spelled to mimic Cary in an attempt to make the name more masculine. I think it failed miserably.Carran would've been much better. Or even Ciaran / Kieran.Miranda

IMO that spelling looks more feminine than the original!

I strongly dislike the name Karen to begin with, and although I find Caron / Caryn more visually pleasing, they are also more feminine imo. Something like Carran would be better. (I do love Carran for a boy.)

I like it better for a boy too, if it had started that way. If Karen wasn't such a recognizable fem. name, I would think it masculine.

Hmm... I can see Caryn working on a boy because its so similiar to Cary, which I think is a fine boys name. I would definately pair it with an uber-strong-class-masculine mn, though. Caryn Alexander. Caryn Daniel. Caryn Andrew. Caryn Michael. Caryn Patrick, etc.~ Arcadia
