My mom's name is Galynn (age 60). It was originally pronounced guh-LIN , but mom changed it to be like Galen. Gay and Lynn were both trendy names in the 40's and 50's, and just like today there were a lot of made up names jumping on the trendy bandwagon. I've also seen Galyn, Gaylyn, and Gaylene from that generation.

I like Galen for a boy. Galynn (gay-lynn) has a nice sound, too. It's odd to me that many of these name are considered "unacceptable" today and yet Gabriel, often with the nn Gabe, is rising in popularity, and it has the "gay" sound as well.
