I think Irissa is a good uncommon name. Did you discover this in Carole Nelson Douglas's fantasy novels, where Irissa is the heroine?
I would definitely agree that if you want this name to rhyme with Melissa, you should spell it with two s's. Most people would want to rhyme Irisa with Lisa when they first looked at it.

I didn't know that Irissa was a character from a book. I saw the name Irisa in a name book a while back, but I thought that the spelling Irissa would seem less confusing.
