Help[Opinions] Kimberly
What do you think of Kimberly? I kind of like it, because it makes me think of the African diamond town, Kimberley, which is also the spelling I prefer. So Kimberly and Kimberley always make me think of diamonds.
I really dislike the nicknames Kim and Kimmy, though. Do you think people would automatically call her that?
Is it too dated to the 60s? I'm worried because it doesn't seem to go back in popularity. It even rose from 2006 to 2007 which I find very weird. Any explanations for Kimberly's staying power?

How many girls with the name do you know and how do they spell it? Do they go by a nickname or by their full name? Do you know their middle names?
Do you think it will continue to rise and even make the top 20 anytime soon? I think it's popularity is weird because it feels about as dated as Jodie or Tracy yet it doesn't go back in popularity but has been staying in the top 100 just like a classic name (Katherine etc). Someone suggested many immigrants naming daughters Kimberly because they just want an English name but don't really have a feeling for what is fashionable. But then I wonder why Tiffany etc fell so quickly. Or is it because Kim is also a common name in some Asian countries so it is favored by Asian immigrants (this is just speculation but do you happen to know?)

I have a niece named Kimberley Paige and she's pretty much called Kim or Kimmy. I find it rather dated and was surprised my sister liked Kimberley. She used this spelling because she said it was the original. Whatever the spelling, I find Kimberley / Kimberly to be quite snooty sounding while Kim sounds flat. Most of the Kims I know are moms.

I hate any other spellings of it besides Kimberley. The others are so made up and trendy.
And yes if you use Kimberly she WILL get called Kim. I introduce myself as Kimberly and people always call me Kim. I'll say 'this is Kimberly' and they will say 'ok Kim' and I'm like hello I said my name was Kimberly-not Kim. It's very annoying. I'd freak out if someone called me Kimmy.

I knew one other girl my age named Kimberly but she always went strickly by Kim. We are 25 now. And I think I breifly worked with a Kim when I was a server but she was in her 40's probably.

I have a friend who spells her name Kimberlee, and I prefer that spelling. I consider it a classic/timeless name.

I think it's neat in a 70's/80's name sort of way. Like Stacey or Stephanie. Plus it has a nice sound to it. I don't like Kimmy, but I think Kim is okay. I was friends with a really nice girl named Kim in college (which was short for Kimberly). I think she'd probably get called Kim a lot, but nothing that can't be fairly easily corrected.

I have bad associations with Kimberly, but it's a nice enough name. Unfortunately, I think Kimberly would tend to get called Kim, unless you establish a different nn or you insist on Kimberly. My name is Melissa and I often get called Mel or Missy. It's just not worth it to me to put up a fight sometimes, though I loathe Missy.
