[Opinions] Loveday
What do you think of Loveday? It's not in the database. But a user submitted entry feels right on point. It's from the 11th century, originally spelled Leofdaeg, meaning "love day." Cornwall and Devon, in southwestern England, is where it was most popular.Loveday used to repell me. But now I'm kind of getting into it for a GP mn on a girl. Can anyone come up with a girl's combination for me, with Loveday as a mn?

When I was little I had a doll called Loveday; her nn was Daisy.Loveday needs a traditional fn. Tiffany Loveday would be awful. So, what about Alice? Brenda? Cathleen? Dorothea? Emily? Frances? Georgina? Harriet? Imogen? Joanna? Karen? Lucilla? Margaret? Noelle? Olwen? Philippa? Quintillian? Ruth? Serena? Tessa? Victoria? Winona?

There is a kind of charm to Loveday. I could see it working as a MN.LOL, the first combo that popped into my head was Courtney Loveday. I think I'd leave that one.Other combos:
Lucy Loveday
Gemma Loveday
Jerusha Loveday (too character-y?)
Alice Loveday
Ivy Loveday
Iris Loveday
Mary Loveday
Katrina Loveday
Bianca Loveday

Aw, Gemma Loveday, Iris Loveday and Mary Loveday all exude the quirky charm I had in mind. Thanks!

It reminds me of that episode of "The Simpsons", when the greeting card companies are creating a holiday just so people will buy cards/gifts. They called it Love Day.Loveday Joy
Loveday Quinn
Loveday Kate
Loveday Corrine

It does sound odd as a fn. I don't watch the Simpsons, but I bet that was a funny episode. Anti-corporate humor is always a winner with me. :-)That said, Loveday Kate is my favorite from your list. Good ol' Kate works wonders as a mn.

I think it's interesting as a surname, but cheesy and comical as a first name.

Thanks, although I was asking what people thought of it as a GP mn. I don't think it's useable as a fn either.Still, it's good to know what people's reaction to the name is. :-)

I love (haha) Loveday as a mn! My mum's family are all from Cornwall so that's one of the reasons why I like it. Recently I was looking through some archives from the 1800s and there were a couple of Lovedays in it :)Anna Loveday

Oooh. Kerensa Loveday. Yummy on many levels.Anna Loveday, Demelza Loveday, Frances Loveday, Katarine Loveday and Thomasina Loveday are my favorites. Believe it or not, someone else thought of Thomasina Loveday. I would not have bet on that happening. Hopefully, it's a sign that Thomasina is on the rise? Or at least not as obscure as she's been.

Glad you liked some of them! I think I have seen Thomasina mentioned a few times on these boards recently.I forgot to add in my first post that a girl I went to school with had Loveday as one of her 2 mns: Amelia Sara Loveday :)

I think Leofdaeg is more awesome than Loveday, but it is still pretty cool.Normal:
Marnie Loveday - awwwwww
Eira Loveday
Susan Loveday
Agnes Loveday - ooh
Florence Loveday
Eleanor Loveday
Fern Loveday
Cora Loveday
Rosemary Loveday
...it seems to go especially well with more vintage feel names!
Ælfwynn Leofdaeg
Aveline Leofdaeg
Hmm... yeah, maybe Loveday is better. Definitely looks better.

I agree with you about Leofdaeg. Super neato cool-o.Eira Loveday, Eleanor Loveday and Aelfwynn Leofdaeg jump out at me the most. :-DYou've inspired me with the Leofdaeg entries. What sayest thou to Everild Leofdaeg?

HaI almost typed out Eoforhild Leofdaeg because I thought it was cool. Great minds think alike. :)

!Mike should definitely check out the information you submitted. I bet it's right on. Thanks for doing the research. I always thought Loveday was based on something old and interesting looking. Leofdaeg is very, very cool. Jemima Alice Loveday, Frances Loveday, and Maud Marion Loveday slay me.

I think it's really really awesome. It sounds like an Elizabethan poet or something. Wikipedia has some cool facts about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loveday

Adelaide Loveday

Oooh. Rowena Loveday. Ivanhoe's girlfriend and a Cornish, hippy love-child. Great mental goulash.Celia Loveday is precious. Veronica Loveday sounds like an old time a film star.

Even though I know it's a medieval name, and that it has a good meaning, I feel like using it nowadays wouldn't work. It sounds like a cutesy, contrived name-- even though it's not. I could see it working best as a MN, not even a GP one. I like it best with classic girls' names.Eleanor Loveday
Emily Loveday
Rosemary Loveday
Katharine Loveday
Sylvia Loveday

Eleanor Loveday, Katharine Loveday and Sylvia Loveday all capture what I'm after. Thank you!Don't worry. I'll never really use Loveday. I just wanted to see what others would make of it. :-)

I actually could see it being used IRL... just only as a middle name. If I met a ____ Loveday, I'd just assume it was a family LN being used for an interesting MN.

For a boy, really? The user submitted entry does say the historically it was used for boys too. I didn't think anyone would go for that though. I first heard the name watching a dramatization of Rosamund Pilcher's novel (the title escapes me). It takes place in Cornwall and the character is feminine. But I certainly understand wanting to use it for a boy's mn. It sort of reminds me of "Lovejoy" starring Ian McShane.Iris Loveday, Isadora Loveday and Victorina Loveday get top marks. You're the second person to suggest Esther Loveday and I am tempted. The flow is so smooth. Orinthia Loveday is too cool!

I like your attitude. Mary Loveday, Eleanor Loveday and Thomasina Loveday are the bees knees. :-) Thanks!

I could see Loveday being used if it was a name in you family's lineage. I think it does take a while for one to see it in a new light ;) I see Loveday being paired with something older sounding.Alberta Loveday
Arden Loveday
Beatrice Loveday
Concordia Loveday
Cornelia Loveday (how appropriate Cornwall, Cornelia lol)
Cordelia Loveday
Catherine Loveday
Dorcas Loveday
Eden Loveday
Esther Loveday
Iphigenia Loveday
Jerusha Loveday

Persis Loveday
Zillah Loveday

Iphigenia Loveday? Did you do that knowing my fascination with Iphigenia? If not, it was a perceptive choice. As much as I adore Cornelia over Cordelia, and as much as I admire your effort to connect with Cornwall, Cordelia Loveday is the winner here. The ancient English tale of King Lear coupled with an old Cornish name like Loefdaeg / Loveday is truly inspired. That my just be *the* combo.

LOL!Nope, no clue! It just occured to me :) Glad you liked Cordelia. I really like the name but, alas, it is not meant to be as our last name is a distant cousin to Cornwall ... and that would just be silly :P Plus, DH's ex's name is "Delia" ... :/

Loveday is too sugary for me, but these come to mind as combos:Amelia Loveday
Sophia Loveday
Samantha Loveday
Anna Loveday
Christina Loveday

Normally I don't like Amelia. But next to Loveday it really is attractive to me. Thanks. And Anna Loveday is irresistable.

I feel the same way about Amelia, but it popped into my head and it just sounded so good next to Loveday.

Yuk!
It's really cutesy.
I'm suprised to learn it's quite old. I suppose that makes it a huge ammount better.
Maybe Elizabeth Loveday - it's okay but I don't like it

That was how I used to feel about it too. I'm sure you're in the majority. Knowing it's centuries old does help, for me at least. Thanks anyway. And Elizabeth Loveday does sound nice. Elizabeth makes everything alright, doesn't she?
