Anyone like Marnie?
It always sounded made-up and nicknamey to me, but apparently it's neither. This site says it's a variant of Marna, which is itself a short form of Marina.
I've known one Marnie. She was given the name because her mother's name was Marguerite and her father's name was Ernie, and they thought Marnie was a good way to combine elements of both of their names.
I think it's kind of cute. I definitely would never use it, but I think it's rather cute and not at all common.
What do you think of Marnie?
