[Opinions] Re: The Amazing difference between American and English naming:
To be quite frank, I'm glad that not all babies are named like this. It'd be utterly dull, and a bit pretentious-sounding.Arthur Edward~ Both names are quite nice, but there's too much R.
Clemency Rose~ Clemency is utterly poncy, and I don't like it. Clemence and Clementine are much nicer.
James Beare~ Eh.
Ruby Edith~ I think it's lovely.
Imogen Evelyn~ Too much N! I can't stand Imogen--I much prefer Imogene.
Rex John Charles~ Rex is fun, but John and Charles suck the fun right out of it.
Meredith Beatrice Meissa~ Three middle names annoys me, and I don't like Meredith at all. Beatrice and Celeste are nice.
Cameron Alexander Campbell~ I have a weakness for Cameron, but the rest is eh. And once again, too much R for me.
Saskia Alice Freya~ It's like they took all of snooty British chic and condensed it into one combo. Ugh. I like Alice and Freya, but this all together just makes me cringe.
Sophie Clare~ Boring as sin, but I do love Clare (yay, no I!).
Camilla Susan~Camilla Susan is really nice, though I usually hate Camilla. Susan, Rosemary, Philippa, and Elenor(e) are old favourites of mine.
Madeleine Eloise Scarlett~ She'd make a good sister for Saskia Alice Freya up there.
Hannah Louise Kay~ I like Kay and Louise. Hannah's gross.
twins,Thomas and Olivia~ DULL.
Clara Lucy~ The names by themselves are all fine (aside from Emma), but together, they seem so utterly typical.
Poppy Eliza, and Thomas Christopher~ I really detest the way Poppy Eliza's stuck with two names that are traditionally nicknames, while Thomas Christopher doesn't have to be Tommy Chris. Very unfair.
Peter~ Yawn.
Daisy Charlotte Marriott~ Daisy Charlotte? It sounds nice and everything, but it's grating on my teeth. I do like Inigo.
Harry Ian~ Harry and Jack, male counterparts to Saskia and Madeleine.
Isabel May~ Isabel may what?
Matilda Sarah Jennifer~ Matilda is fantastic. Sara would be lovely. Jennifer goes and spoils it all (though I do have a weakness for the name).
Jed Samuel Francis~ Lara and Rory are far too R heavy. Jed without a full name is cruel. I love Francis.
George David~ Yawn.
Olivia Rose Cameron~ James and Olivia--how utterly original.
Amelia Grace~ Bertie is fantastic, provided it's a nickname. Amelia grace gets a yawn.
Bear Sutherland~ Lily and Bear sound like names for teddies, not children.
Maxwell Carlisle~ The parents have abused my favourite letter of the alphabet. This is not how we go about using the L sound!
Mia Elizabeth~ Ick, ick, ick. I can't stand either name. She just needs a twin sister named Gemma to complete the gross.
Henry George Egerton~ I like Arabella, though I prefer Arabel.
Aengus William George~ Angus makes me happy inside. Aengus just looks odd to me.
Benedict Stephen Arthur Brian~ Benedict Stephen would be great. Benedict Brian would have been okay. Benedict Arthur would have been a Benedict A. all his life, but it would have worked. All these together smacks of prententious.
Henry Philip Leander~ Leander's really quite fun--I have to admit to liking this combo. Henry Philip Leander flows pretty well.
Kitty~ Once again, the fact that Hector isn't named Heck when his sisters are Kitty and Bobbie (both nicknames I love, mind) is supremely unfair.
Hector and Mimi~ Mimi! Oh, Mimi, I love it. Prefer it as a nickname for Rosemary/Lucia/Mimosa/anything-beginning-with-M, though. Hector's nice and Perdita's a dog in my mind.
Tatiana Florence Eleanor~ Tatiana Florence would have been enough. I really like Tatiana with the nickname Tatty, though I wouldn't use it.
Eleanor Frances~ Love Frances. There are more than a few Eleanor Franceses out there, though.
Emily Alice Louisa~ Emily's dull. Alice is lovely. Louisa is lovely. All together, they're trying too hard. I would've liked Alice Emily a lot more.
Magnus Andrew Cardwell~ Magnus rocks the casbah, and that shines out past dull old Andrew-and-Madeline.
Emilia Elizabeth Primrose~ I love Emilia and Primrose. Ned's fine, and Elizabeth can rot away. Emilia Primrose would have been really sweet.
Amelia (Millie) Feithlinn~ Feithlinn looks like the "upper-crust" spelling of Faithlyn to me. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and figure it has its own history, but it doesn't look like it would.
Emilia Eden Virginia Stewart~ Argh. So much pretentious, so little time. Love Emilia and Virginia, though.
Angus Ross Alexander~ Angus and Ross are great, if too much S.
Huw Edward~ Huw is infinitely more interesting than Edward and deserves a sister with a better name.
Henry Christopher John~ Henry and Christopher are both fine names, but together (and paired with, of all things, John), they're really, really boring.
Madeleine Grace Heather~ I cannot find a single nice thing to say about this one.
Elizabeth Grace~ Well, I'd much rather be called Egg than Elizabeth.
Alice Charlotte~ Alice Charlotte sounds awful to me.
Evan Benjamin~ TOO MUCH N! Evan, Benjamin, Noah.
Elsa Amelia Rose~ I really like Elsa. Too bad she's got boring middle names.
Ludovic Oliver John~ Fenella's one I love so much that it really sucks that I'll never use it. Ludovic is trying so hard, and it fails.
Poppy Joanna Joy~ Once again, Poppy and Oliver and not Poppy and Ollie or Penelope and Oliver? Unfair.
Dylan Glenn~ Too much N, which takes away whatever coolness Dylan Thomas and Bob Dylan have infused into the boy's first name.
Natalie Margaret~ Ugh. While I do like Margaret (prefer Margalo), Natalie's awful.
Kit Benjamin~ I like Kit (and Kip) a lot. Benjamin and Jake? Not so much.
Jack Samuel Edward~ Now here, I do think John and Charlotte would be nicer--or Jack and Lottie. I hate to say it, but I'd rather see a girl whose full name was Lottie rather than yet another Charlotte.
Odhrán Patrick Clark~ I don't like the K heavy sounds, but Odhran is fun.
Zara Virginia Rose~ Zara feels a bit too mimicky--there's a vaguely-royal child named Zara, isn't there? Virginia's really lovely.
Amelia Jasmine~ Jasmine is a weakness of mine. Smells so good that the name is lovely, too.
Anne Madeleine~ Too much N, but I appreciate their using Anne as a first name.
Georgina Elizabeth~ I think Georgina's interesting, but I wouldn't use it myself. Elizabeth's such a cop-out.
Daniel Christopher~ Christopher is a name I hate to admit I like. Daniel is one I'm unafraid of saying I detest.
Madelaine Amelie~ Boring. Trying so hard and yet...dull.
William~ Elena's quite nice. William isn't.
Laurence Sebastian Thomas~ Laurence Thomas would be great. I have a major hate-on for Sebastian.
Elliott David Arthur Drummond~ Bleh. Too much, and Elliot spelled with two T's or one L bothers me.
Louis Benedict John Kearney~ ...I like Louis and Benedict, though I much prefer Louis pronunced the French way.
Isla Selina Edwina~ Yay, Isla! It's the winning name, along with Edwina, here. Ludo is a name for a big, hairy, sweet-but-not-bright monster.
Theodore Kirk~ Theodore Kirk has a real charm to it, especially because I'm imagining in my head that the parents are trekkies.
Hugo Michael Frederick~ Hugo and Laurence is a bit too authors'-last-names for me. Frederick's cool, though.
Poppy Louise~ Poppy Louise is dull in the extreme.
Jessica Susan Jennifer~ Well, they won out with Susan and Simon.
Adam Harry~ Adam is a name I wish I didn't like, but I do.
Natalia Isabella~ I have nothing nice to say about any of these names.
Cordelia Rose~ Love Cordelia. It almost makes Rose interesting--almost.
Portia Alice~ Portia sounds like hogs to me.
Hugo Ignatius Watson~ Ignatius Watson sounds like he'd wear a smoking jacket at inappropriate occasions; I really like it. Hugo and Eloise are fine for other people.
Lucy Catherine~ Boring. My dislike for Catherine knows no bounds.
Sebastian Jose~ Jose is the first really "ethnic" name on this list, which makes it a breath of frigging fresh air.
Montgomery James Hamilton~ Montgomery is way too poncy for me.
Augustus~ Love it, especially with the nickname Augie.
Frederic and Amber~ ...Well, I like Frederic.
Molly Miuccia~ I'm not sure how to pronunce Miuccia, but it looks like "mucus" to me.
Walter Frederick~ Love it in a way that's not quite healthy. Walter and Walt are wonderful.
Clementine Jemima Rose~ I love Harriet, after Harriet Welsch. Jemima's really nice, too, with the nn Mimi. Clementine Jemima's way too much, even without Rose in there.
Cosmo William~ Zita's great. Cosmo and Zita definitely sound like siblings. I approve.
Sophia Emilée~ Ouch.
Martha Gwen McNally~ Martha's a name that's incredibly cool.
Edward Stanley~ Stanley's rather charming, in a very down-and-dirty way. I like Edward Stanley; sounds like a train conductor.
Lettice Emily~ When your child's name is one letter away from food, you're in trouble.
Savannah~ I like Inigo.
Grace Ellen~ Ellen's wonderful.
Guy Oliver~ If they're pronuncing it GHEE, I approve whole-heartedly.
Jack Patrik~ Too K heavy.
Nicholas Edmund~ Susanna and Christian make me really happy inside.
Milo Richard Howard~ Milo Richards would be perfect. Richard Howard flows like a rock--awful. And Twinkle? Well, I hope that A)she has a full name or B)she's a poodle.
May Eloise Georgia~ May is a name that I really do like, but I still read this as "May Eloise georgia?" I'm not sure what "to georgia" is, though.
Jack Schuyler~ I have nothing nice to say about any of those names.
Layla Ruby~ Leila Ruby would be great. (In fact, I'm going to write that one down.)
Alice Kitty~ Katharine Alice "Kitty" would make me jump for joy. Alice Kitty simply sounds like a cat's name; it reminds me of the Sarah-cat from Anne of the Island.
Alfred Jack~ Alfred wins. WINS, I tell you.
Darcy Alice~ Too much S sound.
Beatrice Louise~ Elspeth's too cold-hearted for me. Beatrice and Louise would be nice if they didn't end the same way.
Bendel Eric~ Bendel is not a name for a child. Maybe for a pen made of rubber, but not for a child.
Emily Valerie~ I love Valerie. Emily Valerie is a horrible combo, though, thus proving that money and British ancestry doesn't give one good taste in flow.
Arlo Charles~ Arlo is extremely cool. I'm going to pretend his parents are folk enthusiasts (and friends with Theodore Kirk's trekkie parents).
Flora Rebecca~ Flora and Alec sound sweet together. I don't like Flora Rebecca, though--too much R.
Agnes Lucy~ Very nice. Agnes and Lucy are two of my favourite saints.
Ben Albert~ Albert and Alice are both quite nice.
Chauncey Henry~ Ugh. Singsongy, and Chauncey is awful.
Alexander Stephen Otto~ Please, God, let Freddie's full name be Frederick. I like Stephen Otto; too bad his first name's Alexander.
Montgomery~ Toby's the only one I think well of, and only as a nickname.
Edward~ Teddy warms the cockles of my heart.
Molly Cordelia Goldsmid~ Flora and Cordelia are nice. Molly's a big "UGH."
Esmé Bridget~ I love Artie. LOVE it. I don't even care if he didn't get a full name, because I adore Artie. I have no love for Esme or Bridget, though.
Marina Rose~ Marina got the good deal, didn't she? Lovely name.
Herbert Francis Tigar~ Herbert makes me giggle; Francis makes me happy.
Ophelia Emily~ I like Ophelia. And that's all I can say about that.
Rory David William~ I don't really like any of these (aside from Kitty, of course).
Nancy Agnes~ Nancy and Angus are sweet together, and Agnes is a lovely name. Too bad Nancy Agnes sounds awful.
Isabelle Amelia Loveday~ I like Loveday. Loveday is cool. They should have just called her Loveday; it would have been much more interesting than Isabelle.
Hayden Lee~ Eh.Array
