[Opinions] Jody and Jory
What do you think of Jody and Jory (for boys)? Not as a sibset but as individual names. I was thinking about Jody yesterday because I heard Summer of '69 and a (male) Jody is mentioned in that song. I also looked it up and it seems like it was pretty popular in the US in the late 60's/early 70's. Would you find Jody for a boy dated? Jody then got me thinking of Jory which has a similar feel but might not be as 'feminine' as Jody. It's a bit harsh sounding though compared to Jody.
In your opinion, is Jody for a boy still usable today? Which do you prefer Jody or Jory?

The Jody in that song is male? Isn't the line just "Jody got married"? I always assumed she was a female Jodie.I like Jody and Jodie on a girl, not on a boy. Jory might be cute if it were short for something, too cutesy on its own.I find Jody dated in general, to the 70s. I always assumed it had been way more common back then. But only Jodi ever made the top 100 and wasn't high up. Oh and I first thought Jory was feminine as well. They both sound girly.I don't know which one I prefer. I guess Jory if it's a nickname. For Jordan or something. I like Jody on a girl.

The songWell, the song goes like this:Me and some guys from school
Had a Band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get farI guess I assumed Jody was a man because of the line "me and some guys..." And the lyrics sites I've looked at spell it Jody.

Oh I thought they were unrelated. I mean that he first talks about the band and then about two friends, Jimmy and Jody. But I guess I was wrong. I like the Jody spelling for a girl, btw.

Jody looks really feminine to me, and I don't really care for Jory.

Well, between the two, I'd pick Jory, but I don't really like either one. I've only met female Jodys, so it's hard for me to picture it on a male...or on anyone under 25. Jory/Jorie is my favorite nn for Marjorie, so I don't really enjoy it on a boy either. It's the better of the two, though.

This might be terrible, but I like them both on girls. I grew up with a girl Jory and a couple of girl Jodys. I think Jody is okay for a boy, but doesn't suit a grown man very well - much like the way I feel about Cody and Brody. I don't think I'd call it usable - for myself; it could be used but not without making a statement. I haven't encounted male Jodys so "dated" is not what comes to mind.I think Jory would be alright. Better than Jody, more usable for a boy.

I don't particularly like either of them, but I would use Jory over Jody because Jody is too girly for me (I just think of Jodie). Jory might be good as a nickname, perhaps for Jordan or something.

Jody is just so female here and so chavvy. I've never met a Jody who hasn't had a baby before her 16th birthday and I know about 5, seriously. I quite like Jory but maybe as a nickname

I love Jody for a boy, but I'm not a huge fan of Jory. I'm immune to "dated-sound-ness", so no, I wouldn't think it's dated. Maybe, it's just because a know a 3-year-old named Jody. I say that Jody is still usable for a boy nowadays! I love it. I love most "feminine" boy names though. I definitely prefer Jody. I'd love to meet a little boy named Jody.

Jody's ok, but I prefer it on a girl. Don't like Jory at all. Jody would be dated regardless of gender, I think, but would be a nice change from Ethan, Aidan, Emily, etc.
