[Opinions] Venetia
My Mum has a friend called Venetia (ven-EE-sha). As I've known her since I was a child, I never thought her name was strange, but it's actually quite unusual.
The BTN page says that Venetia is a Latinized form of Gwyneth - does anyone know how that arose, because they seem totally different to me?
Any opinions of Venetia, or of Gwyneth?

I never really thought about Venetia before, but I like it.
I know a Venetia, late 20s, early 30s kind of age, whose family background is firmly and exclusively Greek on both sides, and very aware of their heritage - one of her brothers is Cleon! So Gwyneth does seem much more improbable than an Italian seaport.
As for liking them ... I knew a Gwynnath once. Enough said. And I don't like urban names for humans. No to both.

I love how lacy and upper-crust Venetia is.
I actually like the name Venetia and have done for years, but it's definitely a GP, and not something I'd use in real life. I'd always assumed it was related to the name of Venice and I'm a bit disappointed to find it's not! I've only been to Venice once but it's one of my favourite places ever.
Gwyneth I do not like at all.

I went to Wikipedia to see if the article on Venice explained the meaning, and Venitia is the Latin form of the city's name. But there was no meaning. The closest Italian words I could find were the words for Venus and venereal (as in disease).
I also think of the blinds.

I never cared for Coldplay. They put me to sleep.
