I love it, for all the reasons you listed. Strong, solid, and handsome. Really great! Gerry/Jerry is an obvious nickname, and a good way to get it since I don't really care for Gerald, but I'd probably use Ardy as a nickname. Not sure why, but I think it's adorable.
