I'm not sure its a good name for a person. It means "object to which the action of the sea is directed." I think if you are going to use it, it would be better as a dog name than a human name.

My neighbors when I was growing up had a husky named Alaska.

John Green wrote a really annoying book called Looking For Alaska and I think that's where people are getting it from.

I'd use Allie as a nickname for Alaska, but I'm also an Allie.

Yes that right haha I read Looking for Alaska and got the idea for the name there
Also I sometimes get Allie too so im not too keen on that :)
