Really? I don't find James serious at all, just a good, all-purpose name. There are so many namesakes it can evoke anything from 'James and the Giant Peach' to James Bond, James Joyce, James Brown, James Dean. All so different. Plus you could use Jim or Jimmy, if you like those. Apparently a lot of people don't, but I have a big soft spot for them.
I like Thaddeus too though. I would use Tad instead of Thad, however. Thad sounds thick and clunky to me.
