Sorin pronouced 'so-reen' puts it with names like
Doreen,
Eileen,
Jolene,
Maureen, etc. - it sounds feminine. Also it sounds a little like Sauron. So I'm not the biggest fan! I think you can get people used to just about any pronunciation, but I think the vast majority of people in the US would indeed say 'sor-in' without being given direction, and then would have to be corrected.
Also the 'ee' sound is a long e, not a long i. A long i would come out more like 'sor-ine'.
