[Opinions] Chrysalis
forgot what got me considering it at all, but i've recently started loving it.
At first thought i'd never use- part out of fear of being corny, but mainly because it looks like a combo of two of my SO's relatives who she has a rocky relationship (but vastly improving) with.
Surprisingly though, she not just loves it, but even more so for that reason. It adds more to already completely unsubtle meaning too, by honoring people who bettered themselves. And people who would go "aw that's so sweet- wait Chrysalis wtf". we both feel that if we're gonna be corny, we gotta go all out.
Anyway though, wdyt?? Does it sound enough like a name to you? What nicknames would you use? Are you like ew bugs?? If you had to choose a name with a vague but super corny association, what would you pick? Combos? etc etc

Ew. Bugs.
It's not totally unusable, because of the Chris part. But I'm oike ew bugs, heebie jeebies.
It also sounds too much like a certain rhyming anatomical term, to me.

Maybe I’m just having a brain fart because usually my mind is the first to go to unfortunate anatomical connections, but I can’t figure out which one you mean!
/ ˈklɪt ər ɪs /
/ ˈkrɪs ə lɪs /
I guess I'm the only one who perceived it so maybe it's a nonissue

I can't figure out which part you mean, either.
On the TV show, “The Good Place”, the demons who work in the bad place get cocooned in a hard-shelled slimy sort of chrysalis as a form of punishment. I don’t recall whether they used their term “chrysalis” for it, but that’s what I immediately thought of.
I enjoy a lot of words as names, more so in the middle slot, but Chrysalis doesn’t appeal to me. Perhaps you might like Thyme.
ETA: Mare (MAHR-ay) - the term for any of the various “seas” on the surface of the moon and other celestial bodies. The “Sea of Tranquility” on our moon, for example is named Mare Tranquillitatis.

It’s a little weird and a bit of a stretch, but it’s not the worst. It’s better than most of the random-word-as-name choices out there. It avoids the usual Kardashian trendy feel simply because I’m not convinced that any of them are bright enough to know what a chrysalis is.
I don't think bugs, though I do think butterflies.
If they spelled it Khrysaliss, it could be Kris Kardashian's weirdly engineered post-menopausal trophy baby.
I don't care for it, and there are tons of other Chrys/Chris names that I would use instead.
That said, I can see it being used as a name (even though I'd think it were a weird name if I saw it being used IRL). It fits into the word/nature name trend that's been happening for a while.

Yes, I am oike ew bugs.
You're reaching and stretching way too much trying to justify using chrysalis as a person's name.
I'm not afraid of bugs but for some reason Chrysalis gives me the heebie-jeebies lol, something about a bug emerging from a sac I guess. But I suppose it's okay as a name, just more suited for the middle name category. It kind of reminds me of Fleurdelys in sound.
The meaning isn't one I'd want to bear, and for some reason, Chrysalis also sounds like an artificial sweetener to me. How about Chrysanthe? It's meaning ("golden flower") is much lovelier than "the pupal stage of butterflies). I'd use Chrys or simply Chris as a nickname (both pronounced the same way). Lisa would be a stretch for Chrysalis, but it might work.
Hi !!!
In my opinion Chrysalis is not stupid nor cutesy at all.
It has a lovely sound and meaning (both etymological and immediate).
Butterflies are beautiful animals and I think that the link is tender and romantic.
Chrysalis is ultimately a protection for the new butterfly. The world is full of names that mean "shield" (often Germanic), so why not using Chrysalis?
Shields are made of iron and reminds you the war while Chrysalis reminds you gold, green and then a butterfly.
Use it, if you want! I can't see anything wrong.
