[Opinions] Peridot
WDYT of Peridot? Like any nicknames? Could it work for a boy?

I've never pronounced the T, so it seems a bit doughy...I think of doughboy. Funny, because I don't with Waldo.
It seems better as a name with the T, but I'd have to adjust. It'd come across as similar to Peregrine, Garnet, Topaz, Obsidian, Ivory. I like Perry as a NN.

Is it normal to pronounce Peridot with a silent T? As far as I've been aware, the T isn't silent
I've actually never heard the T pronounced. It's my birthstone, and I've always heard it said as PER-i-doh.
I worked in a high street jewellery chain for a couple of years. We never pronounced the T.
It's a common usage, not sure why, other than that it sounds more like the French version, and the English etymology overlaps with French.
The Latin word it probably evolved from sounds like...

This is one gem name that just doesn't work. I love the gem itself and its pretty lime color, but it just doesn't sound like a name. I suppose you could get Peri or Perry out of it and Perry does work for a boy, but if you like Perry just use that ande skip the messy middle step. Dot might work for a girl, but again, just use Dorothy and be done with it.
I love it as a middle name for a girl, or a first name for an animal, example, a cat with green eyes.
As a first name, technically, since it is a nature / gemstone name, it is genderless, although I’d personally prefer it for a Girl.
Peri is adorable.
Poe could work, but I also think it is or was the name of the red Teletubby.

If you're talking a human child, then no, personally. Even the nicknames Perry / Perri and Dot / Dotty do not help.
I think it works well for pets or pokemon and fictional characters, but I'm strictly on the feminine side despite finding "Perry" too masculine for my tastes.
Dot and Dotty sound cute, but I can't help but get the "weird old lady" vibe (my uncle's ex-girlfriend)
Perry and Perri are just not cool as tomboy nicknames, unlike Billie, George and Frankie. In fact, it's kinda dorky which is not the vibe I'm sure tomboy girls want to go for.
Not sure why I see it as a feminine name to be perfectly honest. I've been using it as a feminine Pokemon name for most of my life, and way before Steven Universe existed.
