[Opinions] Re: Lennon
in reply to a message by Azula
I don't understand why so many people want to name their daughters after men. And that's what they are doing essentially. Are there no strong, cool female role models? I wouldn't mind if they also sometimes named their sons after women. But you never see that. It's a mystery to me.

I’m not pregnant or expecting to be, I’ll get that out of the way first! But,
my interest in Lennon has nothing to do with John Lennon or anybody else. Yes, I see how people would perceive it that way but I’m personally not much of a Beatles fan (nor a John Lennon fan...).

I totally agree. The implication is that in order to project strength and charisma, you also have to project masculinity, because girls aren’t strong or cool.

I have seen people who think this way, but that wasn’t my intention or my thought process when it came to this post or this name.My name is still most definitely regarded as a female name, it’s just not very girly or frilly and I couldn’t imagine myself named something like Olivia or Christina.Mostly, I just like girls names that don’t end in -a. It’s not typical for me to like “trendier” names, though there’s nothing wrong with that. Also, as I said in my own reply to Winter, my interest in Lennon has nothing to do with John Lennon or the Beatle’s, though I could see how it could come across that way. If I ever hypothetically had a daughter named Lennon, she wouldn’t be named after anyone!
