I love pansy flowers, but I would rather use
Violet to refer to them, instead. I don't really like the sound of the name
Pansy.
It reminds me a little of the word pants.
Tansy sounds better to me.
Also, I think the reason why it's incredibly rare these days, despite names like
Daisy and
Poppy being trendy, is because "pansy" has been used as a slur. The disparaging term makes
Pansy (on paper, not on a person) seem worse than
Dick or
Fanny, to me - those coincidences of the names with certain word usages, are merely droll, not vexing like with
Pansy. I would not think that a person being named
Pansy was referring to that - not at all. It's fine! I just have the association with the slur, lodged in my head, and am prone to be reminded of it by the name. And that's just annoying - it's not
Pansy's fault, her name's alright and does make me think of pansy flowers. Having heard pansy used to put someone down, is just a reason why I don't consider
Pansy appealing, when I think of names I would personally like.
