First, as someone who, after decades and two generations of family members working to piece together family history, can only trace his ancestry back to the mid-19th century, I'm extremely impressed you have records and knowledge of ancestry dating back so far.

I kind of like Olaf, but more in a theoretical sense. To that end, Olaus reads as something one might use for a character's name in a medieval era-set novel. I have a hard time imagining it in use today.

It’s very strange. I’d probably assume it’s pronounced oh-laws.
Olaf and Claus are better. I could only really see Olaus on someone foreign. Olaf and Claus I feel the same way about, but I feel like Olaus especially doesn’t really fit in with other English names.

It's one of those rare names that I find too unusual and strange to the anglophone (or actually, many non-anglophone perspectives) ear to actually use as a first name. I don't really like Olaf at all, and Olaus is not any more appealing to me.
That said, it might be sort of neat on a character in a medieval fantasy novel, just not a real person.

It's an interesting name, but I like Olaf and Claus more. I also think that it's similar to your username Uilos, lol 😃
