As is discussed in the column I just posted in Name Facts, Daphne is NOT an 18th century name in English speaking countries unless you are talking about slaves and their descendants in English speaking colonies in the Americas. :)

I looked at people born in the 1700s who lived in what is now the eastern US and didn't divide them beyond that.

Some were slaves. It doesn't appear that they all were (there's a photo of an adult child for two of them, and both appear white; a different one has a father who graduated from Yale in 1777).
