That's okay, I wouldn't consider using it. And it does rather bug me that I can't find an official meaning for the name, makes it seem more like it's a made-up name. :(

Noo! Hahah I just saw this post now. I really think it's an elaboration of Ellie, similar to Annette from Anne. That would make it have history, rooted from the name Helen. I hope this makes you feel like it is more valid/less made up; it would for me haha.It might just be the pronunciation that is making it seem related to Elliott, but I'm guessing they're not related (similar to Amelie and Emily).

Ellie's not necessarily from Helen... could be from Elizabeth... which is a much preferable root in many ways.

If it's a variation of Elliott wouldn't it just have the same meaning as Elliott?
